		Professor Els Meeusen is a Professor in the Department of Physiology at Monash University which she joined 2006. Els' work aims to integrate a whole body approach to science into practical applications for the biotechnology and health industries. Her particular area of expertise is helminth immunology and vaccine development. Professor Meeusen obtained her first degree in Biology at the University of Ghent in Belgium. She worked for two years as an Associate Expert for the United Nation's Food and Agriculture Organisation in Uruguay, before embarking on a PhD at the University of Cambridge, UK. In 1983, she emigrated to Australia and was an active researcher at the University of Melbourne for the next 22 years, the last 5 years as Director of the Centre for Animal Biotechnology.
