Professor Richard Whittington is a veterinary pathobiologist, at the University of Sydney, Camden, New South Wales. He leads research on Mycobacterium avium subspecies Paratuberculosis, the causative agent of Johne’s disease in ruminants, ovine footrot and infectious diseases of fish and wildlife including the platypus. His major studies involve functional analysis and molecular studies of viruses and bacteria, immune responses and pathology in individual animals and animal populations.
