| Centre role Dr Iannello's key role is to assist the Centre Director in the translation of research arising from the Centre's program into applied outcomes. He facilitates interaction with new Centre partners and acts as liaison for the Centre and Monash University's Industry Engagement and Commercialisation group on all Centre Intellectual Property and commercialisation matters. Rocco was awarded his Ph.D. from the Faculty of Medicine, Sydney University in 1988. Post his award, he spent two years at the University of California, San Francisco as an MDA Post-Doctoral Fellow. He was then recruited back to Melbourne, Australia, to work at the Murdoch Institute, Children's Hospital. In 1993 he was offered a research position at the Monash Institute of Medical Research, Monash University and in 1999 became Associate Director of the Functional Genomics and Human Disease Group at the Institute. Dr Iannello's research interests include gene regulatory mechanisms and cell differentiation in the areas of myogenesis, spermatogenesis and neurogenesis. His recent areas of interest include the role of oxidative stress in neurological disease. In 2002, Dr, Iannello pursued commercially related interests in the biomedical field. As a senior commercialization executive at Monash University, he has been responsible for the commercialisation of projects, development of networks and links to industry, the investment community and relevant government authorities, external partners, investors and stakeholders. He has been involved in the formation of a number of spin-out companies, establishing license agreements and ensuring the adequate protection of appropriate intellectual property. Positions currently held by Dr Iannello include Board Director, CRC Biomedical Imaging Development, member of the Scientific Advisory Committee, Monash Institute for Neurological Disease (MiND), and has previously held the Chair of the Victorian Branch of AusBiotech. |
