		Research areas Dr Rai is investigating the structure and function of enzymes that are implicated in the synthesis of the Mycobacterial cell wall. The unique Mycobacterial cell wall represents an important defense strategy for the bacterium, and understanding how this cell wall is made represents an important step towards understanding the physiology of Mycobacteria as well as providing an opportunity to design anti-mycobacterial agents. Located with the laboratory of Professor Rossjohn, Versha is using X-ray crystallography and associated biophysical techniques on key drug targets that have been identified by Centre Chief Investigator Professor Coppel and Dr Paul Crellin.
